This change in the search rankings will be seen for mobile users and will have no impact for the users who will be searching using their desktops. The move will not even effect tablet search results, it is only meant to shake the search results for smartphone users.<\/p>\n<h2>So what does being mobile-friendly really mean?<\/h2>\n<p>It means that your mobile should be visible, comprehensible and crisp when a mobile user accesses it on their device. &nbsp;If a user is not able to read the content on your website on a mobile device, your website is definitely not mobile-friendly.<\/p>\n<h2>I don\u2019t have a mobile-friendly website? Should I worry?<\/h2>\n<p>Recent statistics show that there are as many people using mobiles (to access websites) as desktop users. In fact every year, the use of mobile phone users is on a rise at an alarmingly high rate. One of the most important tips to get mobile-friendly is to rework on the website content. And by rework we mean, and only mean, make it concise.<\/p>\n<h2>Make it concise<\/h2>\n<p>The amount of content that a standard website can clearly depict on a desktop will not be the same for a mobile version of the website. You need to declutter your website not only in terms of content but overall navigation. Ensure that users can easily find information regarding your core offerings\/service areas. This is looking to be the second half of the change with some specific change points that Google released in their announcements.<\/p>\n<p>During their <a title=\"Google Mobile-Friendly update\" href=\"https:\/\/webmasters.googleblog.com\/2016\/03\/continuing-to-make-web-more-mobile.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">announcement<\/a>, they had this to say:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGetting good, relevant answers when you search <strong>shouldn\u2019t depend on what device you\u2019re using<\/strong>. You should get the best answer possible, whether you\u2019re on a phone, desktop or tablet. Last year, we started using mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal on mobile searches. Today we\u2019re announcing that <strong>beginning in May, we\u2019ll start rolling out an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal<\/strong> to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you&#8217;ve already made your site mobile-friendly, you will not be impacted by this update. If you need support with your mobile-friendly site, we recommend checking out the Mobile-Friendly Test and the Webmaster Mobile Guide, both of which provide guidance on how to improve your mobile site. And remember, the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal \u2014 so <strong>even if a page with high quality content is not mobile-friendly, it could still rank well if it has great, relevant content.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But remember, from the <a title=\"Impact of Google Mobilegeddon Update\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalsuccess.us\/blog\/mobilegeddon-update-impact.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mobilegeddon of 2015<\/a> to this announcement, it hasn\u2019t just been dead space from Google on the topic of mobile friendly websites.<\/p>\n<p>One of which, was announced not too long ago. Google stated that they don\u2019t place favor on websites that use \u201cwhole page banners\u201d. Usually, these come in the form of \u201cdownload our app here\u201d banners. Here\u2019s what they look like:<\/p>\n<div class=\"forImgCls\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.digitalsuccess.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/new11.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-622\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.digitalsuccess.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/new11.jpg?resize=604%2C524&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Google Responsive Web Services\" width=\"604\" height=\"524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.digitalsuccess.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/new11.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.digitalsuccess.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/new11.jpg?resize=300%2C260&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 604px) 100vw, 604px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Google has mentioned that they highly prefer mobile-friendly banners like that which Amazon displays on their mobile site.<\/p>\n<p>What Google said about these \u201cinterstitials\u201d is this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Instead of full page interstitials, we recommend that webmasters use more user-friendly formats such as app install banners\u2026We hope that this change will make it easier for searchers to see the content of the pages they are looking for.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They also mention that they don\u2019t like sneaky attempts to get around the full page banner punishments.<\/p>\n<p>Yelp continues to use this method as they specifically don\u2019t like Google position on this issue.
