Real-world use cases
The retailer who wants keystone off
A buyer asks for 50% off retail plus net-60 terms.
The calculator shows the terms push margin below target, so the owner negotiates net-30 or a smaller discount. Result: a wholesale deal that actually profits.
Setting a wholesale price list
An owner is launching a B2B channel.
Running each SKU finds the minimum price for a healthy margin across the range. Result: a defensible wholesale price list from day one.
Why wholesale pricing breaks retail assumptions
Selling wholesale is not just retail at a discount. The economics change in ways that catch product brands off guard: the trade discount is deep, orders come with fulfillment and freight considerations, and, critically, business buyers expect to pay on terms rather than up front. A wholesale order that looks profitable on the discount alone can quietly lose margin once you account for the cost of the goods, the handling, and the weeks or months you wait to be paid. Pricing the channel properly means modeling all of it.
The trade discount is only the starting point
Wholesale pricing usually begins from a discount off retail, but the discount is not the margin. From the wholesale price you still subtract the cost of goods and the per-unit cost to fulfill the order. Only then do you see the real margin, and on deep trade discounts it can be thin enough that a single extra cost tips the deal into a loss. The calculator makes that true margin visible before you commit to a price list.
Net terms are the hidden cost
The cost that wholesale deals most often ignore is payment terms. When a buyer pays net-30 or net-60, you finance their inventory in the meantime, and that has a real carrying cost tied to your cost of capital. On tight wholesale margins, the carrying cost of long terms can be the difference between profit and loss, which is why this tool prices it in explicitly. If a buyer wants longer terms, the price or the discount has to adjust to compensate.
Protecting both channels
Wholesale pricing also has to protect your retail business, so your own direct-to-consumer margin and your wholesale accounts do not undercut each other. Model the direct side with our Profit-Per-Order Calculator alongside this one. And if you are weighing whether Shopify is the right foundation for a serious B2B operation, our comparison of Shopify versus WooCommerce covers the trade-offs.

Good wholesale pricing wins the deal; demand wins the channel
Pricing a wholesale deal correctly protects the margin on the orders you land, but it does not, by itself, bring buyers to the table. A thriving B2B channel needs a steady flow of retailers and buyers discovering you, and increasingly they research suppliers the same way consumers research products: they search. A brand that is visible and credible when a buyer looks for a supplier in its category wins the inbound wholesale inquiries; one that is invisible relies entirely on outbound hustle.
