Enter your site and we fetch /robots.txt and /llms.txt live (via api/fetch-proxy.php) and report which AI crawlers you allow or block. No backend deployed? The generator above still works offline.
Who uses this and why
ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini increasingly answer before anyone clicks. An llms.txt points those models at your best pages, and the readiness check confirms you are not accidentally blocking the search bots that cite you.
Not everyone wants their work used for model training. The live check shows exactly which training crawlers you allow, so you can make a deliberate choice instead of an accidental one.
The format is simple but easy to get subtly wrong. This builds a valid file from plain inputs and hands you the download, no copy-pasting a spec at midnight.
Most site owners have never read their own robots.txt. In one click you see which of thirteen major AI crawlers can reach you right now, and whether you already have an llms.txt live.
What llms.txt is, and why it appeared
llms.txt is a simple, proposed standard: a Markdown file at your domain root (/llms.txt) that tells large language models what your site is about and which pages matter most. Think of it as a sitemap written for AI rather than for search crawlers. Where a sitemap lists every URL for indexing, llms.txt curates, it points a model at the handful of pages that best represent you, with a one-line description of each, so that when someone asks an AI about your topic, the model has a clean, structured guide to your best material.
It exists because AI answer engines are becoming a real discovery channel, and raw HTML is noisy for a model to parse. A concise, curated file in plain Markdown is far easier for a language model to use well. Adoption is early and no AI vendor guarantees they read it, but the cost is near zero and the upside, being represented accurately in AI answers, is real and growing.
llms.txt versus robots.txt: they do opposite jobs
People conflate these, but they are different tools. robots.txt is about access: it tells crawlers what they may and may not fetch, and it is where you allow or block AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and Google-Extended. llms.txt is about guidance: for the models you do allow, it curates what is worth paying attention to. You generally want both working together, a robots.txt that makes a deliberate choice about which AI bots to permit, and an llms.txt that guides the permitted ones to your best content. That is why this tool does both: it builds the guidance file and reads your live access rules.
Allow or block: making the call per crawler
There is no single right answer, and the crawlers are not all the same. Training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot) fetch content to train future models; blocking them protects your work from being used that way but does nothing for or against your visibility today. Search and browsing crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ChatGPT-User) fetch pages to answer live questions and cite sources; allowing these is usually how you earn a mention in an AI answer. Many publishers land on a deliberate split: permit the search bots that can send visibility your way, decide case by case on training bots. The readiness check shows where you stand today so the choice is yours to make, not one that happened by default.

A file is easy; a strategy is the point
Generating llms.txt takes a minute. Deciding what actually earns a place in it, structuring your key pages so AI engines quote them accurately, and setting a crawler policy that balances visibility against protecting your content, that is the real work, and it is moving fast. Getting cited by AI answer engines is becoming its own discipline, part content structure, part technical setup, part editorial judgment.
